India provides 1,000 Metric Tonnes of Rice as Humanitarian Assistance to Burkina Faso
The Ambassador of India to Burkina Faso met H.E. Lieutenant-Colonel Passowende Pelagie Kable/Kabore, Minister of Family and Solidarity of Burkina Faso, on 17 September 2026 and formally handed over 1,000 metric tonnes of rice provided by the Government of India as humanitarian assistance to Burkina Faso.
- The Ambassador conveyed the greetings and solidarity of the Government and people of India to the Government and people of Burkina Faso and reiterated India’s commitment to supporting partner countries in times of humanitarian and food-security challenges. The assistance is intended to support vulnerable communities and families facing food insecurity, particularly those affected by terrorism.
- The Ambassador underscored that India’s development partnership with Africa is guided by the principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam “the world is one family” and reflects India’s continued solidarity with the people of Burkina Faso.
- Following the meeting, the Ambassador visited the warehouse where the rice consignment was stored. The handover was formally acknowledged, and distribution of the assistance to vulnerable communities and families affected by terrorism is expected to commence through the relevant Burkinabe public distribution authorities. The Minister expressed appreciation and gratitude to the Government of India.
- The Government of India remains committed to strengthening its humanitarian and development partnership with Burkina Faso and to working together in areas including food security, agriculture, water management and capacity building.
