Celebration Independence Day of India 2026

The Embassy of India in Ouagadougou celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India with great patriotic fervour, bringing together members of the Indian community and Friends of India to celebrate India’s rich heritage, achievements and enduring spirit of unity.

The celebrations began with a mass rendition of #VandeMataram, followed by the hoisting of the National Flag by H.E. Ambassador Om Prakash Meena. The ceremony evoked a strong sense of national pride and paid tribute to the sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters.

The vibrant participation of the Indian community and Friends of India added colour and warmth to the celebrations through scintillating cultural performances, showcasing India’s rich and diverse cultural traditions.

A special highlight was the #HarGharTiranga Exhibition, which celebrated the significance of the Tricolour and provided an opportunity for the community to reconnect with their Indian roots and shared heritage.

The Embassy also felicitated the winners and participants of the #ViksitBharat Painting Competition, #IndiaThroughMyLens, #MyIndiaMyStory, and #BharatKoJaniye Special Independence Day Quiz, organised under the #HarGharTiranga theme. Certificates of appreciation and cash prizes were presented in recognition of their creativity, enthusiasm and patriotic spirit. Notably, Burkinabe citizens participated enthusiastically in these activities and competitions, with several emerging as prize winners reflecting the growing warmth and people-to-people ties between India and Burkina Faso.

The celebrations concluded with a #swachhatacampaign, in which members of the Indian community and Embassy officials participated, reaffirming the spirit of collective responsibility and community service.

The memorable celebrations reflected the pride, unity and deep connection of the Indian diaspora and Friends of India with the motherland, while also highlighting the strong and growing bonds of friendship between India and Burkina Faso and India’s shared aspiration for a Viksit Bharat.
